PDFtypewriter PDF Printer Driver Help Files

General Tab

General Tab

The General Tab presents the overall PDF creation settings. This tab will allow users to specify the PDF resolution, version of the PDF file, the rotation of the PDF file pages (which can be forced), and add/remove the Microsoft Word Add-In.

1 . PDF Compatibility Selection PDF Compatibility Selection

PDF Compatibility Selection

Select the PDF compatibility from the drop down to set the PDF version for the PDF to be created.   Adobe Acrobat 3.0 (PDF 1.2), Adobe Acrobat 4.0 (PDF 1.3), and Adobe Acrobat 5.0 (1.4) can be selected. The lower the version chosen, the more PDF viewers the file should be able to be opened in, however later versions support more options, and usually higher quality and smaller file sizes. Because most people have Adobe Acrobat 5.0 or higher, we recommend Adobe Acrobat 5.0 (PDF 1.4) be selected.

2 . Page Rotation Selection Page Rotation Selection

Page Rotation Selection

Select how the pages in the PDF file about to be created should be rotated.

None will rotate none of the pages, and they will be saved as sent to the printer driver.

Auto Rotate All will attempt to recognize how the page should be oriented and then rotate each page as our software detects it to be correctly oriented.

Forced Clockwise will force all pages to be rotated 90 degrees clockwise.

Forced Counter-Clockwise will force all pages to be rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise.

Forced 180 Rotation will force all pages to be rotated 180 degrees.

3 . PDF Resolution PDF Resolution

PDF Resolution

Enter the resolution of the vectorization in the PDF file. The higher this number is, the more accurate information will be placed in the PDF. However, it will result in larger PDF files. 600 is the recommended setting for this. This will create good quality PDF documents. If you need to create high quality PDF documents, setting this to 1200 or 1500 may be beneficial, however it will slow down the PDF creation process and result in a larger file.

4 . Convert Binary Data to ASCII Option Convert Binary Data to ASCII Option

Convert Binary Data to ASCII Option

Check this option to convert all binary data in the PDF to ASCII text. This is unchecked by default.

5 . Linearize / Web Optimize PDF Linearize / Web Optimize PDF

Linearize / Web Optimize PDF

Check this option to linearize the output PDF (often called Web Optimize). Some PDF readers are able to open linearized PDF files while they are still in the process of being downloaded. This allows even large files to almost immediately appear in your user's browser before download is complete.

Check this option to enable this feature. It is not recommended to use this feature if you plan to also encrypt your PDF file.

6 . Microsoft Word Add-In Microsoft Word Add-In

Microsoft Word Add-In

Click (Re) Install Add-In to install (or reinstall if it is already installed) the CREATE PDF button in Microsoft Word. This is preformed by generating a signed macro in the Startup Folder of the Microsoft Office Installations detected on the system. Click Uninstall Add-In to remove these macros from Microsoft Word and hence remove the button to create a PDF from Microsoft Word. PDF files can still be created from Microsoft Word WITHOUT the add-in. This simply makes the process take fewer steps (all you have to do is click on button your toolbar). If this is not installed, simply follow the Creating a PDF instructions also found in this help file to generate a PDF from Microsoft Word just as you would any other file or software.
